Vasyam Porutham: Which Moon Signs Attract Which

For each Moon sign, Kalaprakasika names the signs concordant to it. Vasyam agrees when either partner's sign is on the other's list.

⚡ The short answer

Vasyam porutham compares the two Moon signs using a fixed table: for each sign, Kalaprakasika (1917, p. 75) names one or two signs that are concordant to it. Leo and Scorpio, for example, are concordant to Aries. The check agrees when the groom's sign is concordant to the bride's, or the bride's to the groom's. Either direction counts.

☕ How the table is read

Vasyam uses only the two Moon signs (janma rasi). Unlike Rasi porutham, it does not count how far apart they are. Instead the book gives a table: next to each sign, the one or two signs said to be concordant to it, or drawn to it.

To check a pair, look up the bride's sign and see whether the groom's sign is on its list. Then look up the groom's sign and see whether the bride's is on its list. The book says the groom's sign should be concordant to the bride's "or vice versa", so a match in either direction is enough.

The table is not symmetric. Leo is concordant to Aries, but Aries is not on Leo's list. Because either direction counts, that pair still agrees. Only two pairs are concordant both ways: Gemini and Virgo; Cancer and Scorpio.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Vasyam have to work both ways?

No. Kalaprakasika says the groom's sign should be concordant to the bride's, or vice versa. One direction is enough.

Which signs are concordant to Aries?

In Kalaprakasika, Leo, Scorpio. The table gives one or two signs for each of the twelve.

What if both have the same Moon sign?

No sign in the book's table is listed as concordant to itself, and the book does not rule on a shared sign for Vasyam.

Is Vasyam one of the five chief poruthams?

No. Kalaprakasika names Dinam, Ganam, Yoni, Rasi and Rajju as the five chief checks. Vasyam is one of the ten, and counts toward the at least five that should agree.

📖 Reading the 1917 print

The table is one long sentence in the book, and the scanned text has two small slips ("Gemini andj Pisces", "Virgo and Cancer.to Scorpio"); they are read as Gemini and Pisces to Virgo, and Virgo and Cancer to Scorpio. The book adds a one-line outcome for the couple when the check agrees; this page leaves it out and keeps the rule.
